WEEK SEVENTEEN: SENTENCE OF DEATH AND PASSION DAY 1

WEEK SEVENTEEN: SENTENCE OF DEATH AND PASSION DAY 1

MORNING FACE TO FACE WITH GOD:
Begin with Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Prayer on Luke 22: 42-44: The Agony in the Garden: "Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be done." [And to strengthen him an angel from heaven appeared to him. He was in such agony and he prayed so fervently that his sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground]." [Please read Luke 22: 39-46 for a better appreciation of the passage].

Read the Reflection; then pray using Luke 22: 42-44; ask for sorrow with Christ in sorrow, anguish with Christ in anguish, tears and deep grief because of the great affliction Christ endures for me (#203).
Jesus'Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane is heart-rending. It is a most vulnerable period in Jesus' passion and crucifixion experience. Jesus is confronted with what is to come. Understandably, "He was in such agony and he prayed so fervently that his sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground." He chose Peter, James, and John to be with him during this very significant moment in His inexorable journey to crucifixion on Calvary. He had chosen them at other significant moments to be with Him. They were with Him during His transfiguration, to better prepare them for Jesus' forthcoming crucifixion, death, and resurrection. But they were of little help to Him during His agony. Luke tells us that Jesus found them sleeping from grief (verse 45). Mark tells us that Jesus found them asleep three times. They just did not keep watch with Jesus during His most painful and vulnerable agony. And Jesus Himself was so overwhelmed with the specter of his passion, crucifixion, and death, that He prayed, saying, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be done." In accepting His Father's will, Jesus became our Suffering Servant, and by His stripes we have been healed."  Taken from Mold me as Your Disciple by Dr Michael Fonseca

What is God saying to you?  He died for you.

Dear Father, have mercy on me, a sinner.  Amen.
