Vision.  The readings over the last two days have not been easy ones.  They cause one to think and  they paint images that do not make a lot of sense.  Daniel faces the same challenges as he grapples with what God gave him to write.  The one common theme that comes to me is vision.  Sitting within prayer, it is God that gives us vision to grapple with these days and it is He who is our strength.

Jesus tells us to be vigilant and to pray to have the strength to stand before the Son of Man when He comes.  Is that not what we do when we spend time in prayer.  Isn't it God who we are present to, are not the images that He gives a vision from Him that we take into our days.  Strength comes from repeating a task till the point you become strong then it is the opportunity to maintain that strength by continuing  doing what got you there.

Within prayer is all our answers along with peace to spend time with God where there is no tribulation, if He is our source and summit.   Enjoy your day!  Armor on.

Dear Father, we have journeyed these past few days chewing upon Daniels vision and being attentive to Your Holy Spirit.  Help us see what You are preparing for each of us.  Open our hearts and minds to receive You within our time together in prayer and to witness to you in our day.  Continue to strengthen us so we are vigilant and prepared.  Jesus, we trust in You.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

1300 The essential rite of the sacrament follows. In the Latin rite, "the sacrament of Confirmation is conferred through the anointing with chrism on the forehead, which is done by the laying on of the hand, and through the words: 'Accipe signaculum doni Spiritus Sancti' [Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit.]."114 In the Eastern Churches of Byzantine rite, after a prayer of epiclesis, the more significant parts of the body are anointed with myron: forehead, eyes, nose, ears, lips, chest, back, hands, and feet. Each anointing is accompanied by the formula SfragiV dwreaV PneumatoV ¢Agiou (Signaculum doni Spiritus Sancti): "the seal of the gift of the Holy Spirit."

Jesus.  Have you encountered the person of Christ?  He is Jesus, the One who draws us in to a deeper relationship with His words of truth and encouragement.   He is the answer to what we are seeking.

I watch this morning as Jesus says: "Come after me and I will make you fishers of men."  Peter and Andrew have encountered the Christ and they go, they follow Jesus and He made them fishers of men.  They did nothing more than respond to Christ and what He said.

As you watch the scene unfold on the seashore, do you see two men leave their nets behind and heed the voice of God.  You know their story, it is written in the Gospels and we know their outcome, they became Saints.  All they did was heed God's voice as He said "come".   It is really that simple, may we all be touched by God's voice today as we do what He would do.

Dear Father, there are memories that bubble up with this scene, there is a joy in being able to recognize Your voice and being drawn to follow.  May we recognize that it is Your Son, Jesus, that has the answers and the guidance that our spirit desires.  Give us a hunger as Simon and Andrew had that day on the seashore to follow Jesus all the days of their earthly life.  Prayers for a world being pulled to and fro, may it be You that guides our steps.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

1299 In the Roman Rite the bishop extends his hands over the whole group of the confirmands. Since the time of the apostles this gesture has signified the gift of the Spirit. The bishop invokes the outpouring of the Spirit in these words:

All-powerful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
by water and the Holy Spirit
you freed your sons and daughters from sin
and gave them new life.
Send your Holy Spirit upon them
to be their helper and guide.
Give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of right judgment and courage,
the spirit of knowledge and reverence.
Fill them with the spirit of wonder and awe in your presence.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.113

Serve God. I witness Daniel serve God in how he lives his life.  How he carry's himself and how he treats others.  I hear Jesus say the same words to those listening to the coming persecutions and what can be expected.  King Belshazzar, not a man of God knew who served God and could give him the answer to the writing.   The king served mammon and it was evidence by the way he lived and what he worshipped.

Which one is it, God or god that your life speaks to?  Do others know that you serve the God of creation.  Are you filled with the spirit of wonder and awe of His presence.  He is everywhere, all knowing and has planted you were you are at.

Our lives speak of which God resides in our hearts, may it be the God of Creation that captivates each of us.  And, He will give us the gift of His Spirit when we are called to go forward.  We are all called.

Dear Father, You flow through my spirit and teach me what is needed and what is not.  You work with Your son and help him along the journey.  I thank You for another day to continue to listen and respond to Your voice.  Prayers for the king Belshazzar's of this world, may they recognize the writing on the wall and change their ways so we can serve you.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

1298 When Confirmation is celebrated separately from Baptism, as is the case in the Roman Rite, the Liturgy of Confirmation begins with the renewal of baptismal promises and the profession of faith by the confirmands. This clearly shows that Confirmation follows Baptism.111 When adults are baptized, they immediately receive Confirmation and participate in the Eucharist.

Fortified.  I look to the mountain, the mountain of God as He speaks to what has been given.  I don't always understand situations and events but within scriptures lies the keys to what brings peace within.  Fortified walls are ones that look to God for the answer, they are not fortified by the things of this world.  That is Daniels message to King Nebuchadnezzar we will all face troubles in this world, how we handle them and who we turn to will determine our outcome.

God is the mountain, the rock of salvation that transforms us into His image and likeness as we consume the bread of life, the life that He gives us, His very flesh and blood.  Look to God in all situations and ask Him.  Daniel never faltered from the One who loves him as he was being tormented.  God answered his prayer and gave him the way out.  I pray you are learning to fortify your walls with daily prayer.  It is a joyous journey even when it is bumpy.  "I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.""  John‬ ‭16‬:‭33‬

Dear Father, You teach over many days, and many years.  What once was foreign has now become part of our spirit and You build upon a strong foundation.  It gets shaken at times but always looks up knowing You have the answer.  I am thankful for this day and what it will bring, I am thankful for what You will continue to say.  May we be attentive to Your voice in repeating what has been heard.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

The celebration of Confirmation

1297 The consecration of the sacred chrism is an important action that precedes the celebration of Confirmation, but is in a certain way a part of it. It is the bishop who, in the course of the Chrism Mass of Holy Thursday, consecrates the sacred chrism for his whole diocese. In some Eastern Churches this consecration is even reserved to the patriarch:

The liturgy of Antioch expresses the epiclesis for the consecration of the sacred chrism (myron) in this way: "[Father . . . send your Holy Spirit] on us and on this oil which is before us and consecrate it, so that it may be for all who are anointed and marked with it holy myron, priestly myron, royal myron, anointing with gladness, clothing with light, a cloak of salvation, a spiritual gift, the sanctification of souls and bodies, imperishable happiness, the indelible seal, a buckler of faith, and a fearsome helmet against all the works of the adversary."

https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/112723.cfm

All in.  In todays reading you see commitment.   The widow is in an impossible situation yet she does what her heart tells her, to trust God.  Daniel finds himself in a foreign land being held captive.  He as well finds himself in an impossible situation and like the widow, follows his heart, to trust God.

We can give from our surplus which is hedging our bets or we can give from our depths.  You are in life where God has planted you, will you listen to Him and trust Him.  I do not know what came of the widow women but I know that God seen her commitment.  Daniel we know survived the test and became mighty in the Lords eyes.

What is it that God is asking of your situation?  Is it to go all in or is it to wait it out and be patient, both rely upon God the Father and require trust.

Dear Lord God, You are mighty and give us a rich heritage that does not change with time.  May I listen attentively to Your commands and be diligent with what You ask.  I trust in You with all things and I know You have our best interest at heart.  Bless what comes with Your grace.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known. Christ the King

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.  Christ the King

1296 Christ himself declared that he was marked with his Father's seal.108Christians are also marked with a seal: "It is God who establishes us with you in Christ and has commissioned us; he has put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee."109 This seal of the Holy Spirit marks our total belonging to Christ, our enrollment in his service for ever, as well as the promise of divine protection in the great eschatological trial.

https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/112623.cfm

Kingship.  Jesus and I sit this morning and visit.  He is subject to the Father and I am subject to Him.  He is the King in my life that rules over me and my passions.  I subject myself to Him and He is a faithful King giving when it isn't deserved.  He speaks of a day in todays readings when He will come and separate the shaft from the wheat.  When He will ask whom did I serve?  Was it God My Father or was it self.

Each day we are given an opportunity to reveal who rules our hearts.  There is another king, the king of this world, who lies and deceives.  Our own hearts will reveal Truth to us.  As this liturgical year comes to an end which King has you captivated, one that has concern for you and your eternal rest or the other that deceives and enslaved.

Dear Father, I read and see what is coming.  I listen and respond to the best of the ability given.  I look to You to guide my steps and my thoughts.  You know where my heart lies and what concerns it, even then I trust in You for You are God.  Thank You for another day to live out the gift of this live, may I not be distracted by anything other than Your will.  Love Your son.

1295 By this anointing the confirmand receives the "mark," the seal of the Holy Spirit. A seal is a symbol of a person, a sign of personal authority, or ownership of an object.106 Hence soldiers were marked with their leader's seal and slaves with their master's. A seal authenticates a juridical act or document and occasionally makes it secret

Teacher.  As we listen to God in the daily readings is He Teacher to you?  As I journey with Him, there is this understanding of who God is, not who I think He is from my youth.  He stands before the Sadducees and is their teacher.  Knowing their short comings in their understanding and His desire for them to know the Living and Eternal Father.

The King in the first readings has found himself in desolation realizing the error of his ways as he desecrated God's temple.  Yet in this realization there is remorse for his ill conceived plans.  I am reminded this morning tha: "Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?" 1 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬.  We are kings in our own rights and without God in our lives we will find ourselves in the same predicament as King Antiochus.

Still our Teacher waits patiently and lovingly for our return.  Life is a great lesson and much better when traveled through with God.  It prepares us for eternity.

Dear Father, I enjoy the beauty of the morning, watching as Love moves mountains and brings a real Presence to the readings this morning.  I have found myself in the situation the King found himself in and I have seen You as teacher waiting.  Thankful for another lesson today found within scripture and the guidance of Your Holy Spirit.  May we all recognize the lessons You are giving, both the good and the bad.  Bless this day and bring peace through it.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known. Happy Thanksgiving.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

May he grant you joy of heart
    and may peace abide among you;
May his goodness toward us endure in Israel
to deliver us in our days.  Ben Sira 50:22-23

Thankful.  I sit this morning with joy in my heart pondering the wonders of God.  He has always given the desires of my heart, I have not always given Him my heart.  Those desires lead to suffering, trials and tribulations but He allowed me to go, for I could not hear His voice nor was He a focus. He was lost to me or better said I was lost.

Today that is different, He is my focus and I have learned to be thankful in all situations both good and bad.  Thankful for waking up each day and kneeling before Him.  Thankful for the opportunities to live out the life He gives.  Thankful for family that surrounds us.  Thankful for the chance encounters each day.  Thankful for my upbringing and the place I was planted.  Thankful for learning to grow through the pitfalls of life.  Thankful for the rich tradition that is instilled within my depths.  Thankful for knowing the Son of Man who died upon the cross so the sinner I am may live for Him.

Be thankful in all situations, if you don't like your situation, look up and say thank You.   Being thankful is the beginning of salvation.

Dear Father, Thank You for what You do each day, for the ways You show up and journey with us through life.  Thank You for the gift of this life, may I honor You in all that I do.  Happy Thanksgiving Father, may we all see the joy You freely give.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

1294 Anointing with oil has all these meanings in the sacramental life. The pre-baptismal anointing with the oil of catechumens signifies cleansing and strengthening; the anointing of the sick expresses healing and comfort. The post-baptismal anointing with sacred chrism in Confirmation and ordination is the sign of consecration. By Confirmation Christians, that is, those who are anointed, share more completely in the mission of Jesus Christ and the fullness of the Holy Spirit with which he is filled, so that their lives may give off "the aroma of Christ.

Life or death?  Seems like a simple choice, we each will chose life.  Have we considered the choices we make each day in the gift of life that God gives us with each breath.  We are all given talents and abilities.  How do we use them and who do we seek to glorify?  Self or God.  Once again our choices will tell the story.

A mother continues to sacrifice self as she gives her sons to God with her words.  Her choices each day have led to this time of honor along with her sons who wisely listen to Mother.

Jesus conveys a message within the parable of ten coins as He goes to Jerusalem.  What are you doing with your gold coin?  We are each given a gold coin, maybe you believe you didn't get one.  So on that day of the Kings return, your own words will convict you.   "He said to him, 'With your own words I shall condemn you, you wicked servant. You knew I was a demanding person, taking up what I did not lay down and harvesting what I did not plant;".  ‭‭Luke‬ ‭19‬:‭22

He planted the seed, waters it and gives it life.  Are we growing into the prodigy that God seeks or are we ignorant of His voice in our lives.

How is your prayer life?  We are all going to end up in Jerusalem, our choices each day will give us strength in our times of need or will provide weakness.   What are you doing with your gold coin?

Dear Father, I wake this morning with a thankful heart, with a desire to know You and love You more deeply.  I see the choices and I see gold coins being multiplied.  I see the shine being put back on with a renewed vigor of thankfulness.  Help us see how the words we chose this day tell our story and where we are destined for.  Continue to shower Your love upon us.  Prayers for a young lady with auto-immune disease, may Your healing hand be upon her.  Thank You, love Your son.

II. THE SIGNS AND THE RITE OF CONFIRMATION

1293 In treating the rite of Confirmation, it is fitting to consider the sign of anointing and what it signifies and imprints: a spiritual seal

Anointing, in Biblical and other ancient symbolism, is rich in meaning: oil is a sign of abundance and joy;103 it cleanses (anointing before and after a bath) and limbers (the anointing of athletes and wrestlers); oil is a sign of healing, since it is soothing to bruises and wounds;104 and it makes radiant with beauty, health, and strength.

https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/112123.cfm

Love for God.  Our readings today show how individuals stand out from the culture and give the love they have received away in honor of God.  The first reading shows a man not willing to go against his love of God and deny Him for the sake of the generations coming behind him and his own salvation.  The Gospel reading show us how Zacchaeus stood out from the crowd seeking God, his heart was drawn to the goodness of God and his response is the gift of self back.

Today is the feast of the presentation of Mary in the temple.  Tradition tells us that Mary's parents dedicated their daughter, God's gift, to God.  Their sacrifice was giving back what God gives.  How many of us this day can sacrifice love of self for love for God.  Your actions will speak of this love, if I am not there yet it is ok.  For it is our cooperation with God through prayer that brings about the life that He desires.  Have a blessed Feast day, pray for the grace of God to come upon another child of Abraham.

Dear Father, You have instilled what is within, it is You that responds and sees the happenings of the day.  You know my silent prayer that stirs my spirit.  I thank You for the power of Prayer and the knowledge of knowing You are God and You answer prayer.  Bless this day, thank You for the gift of Your daughter Mary, may we honor You with our gift of self.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

1292 The practice of the Eastern Churches gives greater emphasis to the unity of Christian initiation. That of the Latin Church more clearly expresses the communion of the new Christian with the bishop as guarantor and servant of the unity, catholicity and apostolicity of his Church, and hence the connection with the apostolic origins of Christ's Church.

https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/112023.cfm

God or man.  I sit with the blind man this morning and see what he sees.  Vision can complicate our lives if God is not its focus.  The blind man conveys his conviction when he calls out to the Son of David.  The words that he heard painted the image of God, the richness of scripture gave him the desire for God.  The words also painted the cruelness of man.  All he had was his imagination and it was this gift of physical blindness that brought him to Christ.

Do we recognize the groaning of our hearts and who truly gives us peace?  The blind man new the Son of David long before he encountered Him in person.  The relationship had been established in the quietness of his heart as he journeyed thru life.  Be attentive to the groaning of your heart and come to know that it is only God that will satisfy it.

Dear Father, I thank You for my blindness at times, not really knowing and drawing me closer to You.  I thank You for spiritual sight, to sit in Your presence and to be fed with the gift of You.  Prepare us for this day that our hearts are only satisfied by You.  Prayers for a world that sees yet does not know You.  May we be a pleasing offering in Your sight.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

1291 A custom of the Roman Church facilitated the development of the Western practice: a double anointing with sacred chrism after Baptism. The first anointing of the neophyte on coming out of the baptismal bath was performed by the priest; it was completed by a second anointing on the forehead of the newly baptized by the bishop.102 The first anointing with sacred chrism, by the priest, has remained attached to the baptismal rite; it signifies the participation of the one baptized in the prophetic, priestly, and kingly offices of Christ. If Baptism is conferred on an adult, there is only one post-baptismal anointing, that of Confirmation.

https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/111823.cfm

Out of adversity comes Triumphant.  Jesus asks us an interesting question this morning.  Will the Son of Man find faith upon His return?   This is a question for each of us.  Do we like the disciples in John 6:66 who are experiencing something they don't like leave the side of Jesus.  We live in very interesting times.

Yet in our first reading in the book of Wisdom, God paints the pictures of adversity and triumph for those who stay the course. The victory is found within prayer, in the constant reminder that God hears our prayers and He will answer them.   "Then he told them a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary. He said,". ‭‭Luke‬ ‭18‬:‭1‬.  Prayer is our direct connection with God.

Dear Lord God, You have given us another day to be persistent and to be obedient to Your will in our life's.  Like Peter, we have no place else to go other than to be by Your side.  Prayers for those hangin on by a thread, may they see the hope that You give within the Gospels.  Open our hearts up to Your Divine will and be attentive to others in need.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Two traditions: East and West

Catechism #1290 In the first centuries Confirmation generally comprised one single celebration with Baptism, forming with it a "double sacrament," according to the expression of St. Cyprian. Among other reasons, the multiplication of infant baptisms all through the year, the increase of rural parishes, and the growth of dioceses often prevented the bishop from being present at all baptismal celebrations. In the West the desire to reserve the completion of Baptism to the bishop caused the temporal separation of the two sacraments. The East has kept them united, so that Confirmation is conferred by the priest who baptizes. But he can do so only with the "myron" consecrated by a bishop.101

Be Still.  I stand with Jesus this morning and see the eager pursuits of life.   The desire for more, for knowledge, for the next step and Jesus's response is plain and simple, it is in clear view.  If we are not paying attention, we will miss who is in our presence.  We will miss what God is doing with us in the moment.

Jesus speaks plainly in todays Gospel and conveys that He is.  Blinded by their passions the audience misses the gloriousness of now.  He is there in our midst, in our joys and in our sufferings.  We do not go through life alone unless we miss the one who loves us the most.  Listen to Jesus speak and receive His message that He gives in todays Gospel.  Be still.

Dear Father, I am thankful for the gentle reminders to live in the now.  To not look beyond today dreaming of some far away place and missing the gift of this day.  May we not look past You today, receive You, Your message of love and give what we are given.  Bless this day and all of us who pass through it with the You in our hearts.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

1289 Very early, the better to signify the gift of the Holy Spirit, an anointing with perfumed oil (chrism) was added to the laying on of hands. This anointing highlights the name "Christian," which means "anointed" and derives from that of Christ himself whom God "anointed with the Holy Spirit."100 This rite of anointing has continued ever since, in both East and West. For this reason the Eastern Churches call this sacrament Chrismation, anointing with chrism, or myron which means "chrism." In the West, the term Confirmation suggests that this sacrament both confirms and strengthens baptismal grace.

Give Thanks.  We are always under the watchful eye of God.  He sees are comings and our goings.  There is nothing that goes beyond Him and we are the apple of His eye.  This morning I sit and contemplate the thoughts that I have, the things that He gives for me to pay attention to, to see the joys of the day and the pains as well.

We are each given the same opportunity, how we use it is up to each of us.  Will we honor God in all our circumstances, will we acknowledge Him when the opportunity arises.  Will we spend time alone with Him and listen.  This is the key to everlasting life within the world that seeks to distract our attention from Him.

Pay attention today, what is He saying to you and where is He directing you to focus in on.  It isn't self but upon other, live out the Kingdom on earth with Him.  Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.

Dear Father, I see You at work within, I see the situations and the opportunity.   I am thankful for our relationship and Your deep abiding love.   There is nothing that You do not know.   Prayers for a world that wants the gifts but not the Giver, may we each see how we may become Your hands, Your eyes, Your voice on our journey through this valley, Love your son.

Caught.   Have you considered that you are caught?  Either you are caught within the grace of God and are living out this victory here on earth or you are caught in the torment of death, living out a life unaware of the goodness of God.

Are you the unprofitable servant doing what is asked of you, not counting the results and living within God's grace.  Is that not payment enough, the results are not ours but His.  Have a blessed day, may YOU be caught within God's gaze.

Dear Father, it is a blessed morning to go through the valley with You by my side.  I am doing what You are asking.  Prayers for a world that is caught in the trap unaware of its outcome, may we never find ourselves there oblivious to what is really going on.  Bless this day and all it has to offer, love Your son.
