Week 44 - The Journey with Nicodemus
"Nicodemus, the one who had first come to him at night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes weighing about one hundred pounds. They took the body of Jesus and bound it with burial cloths along with the spices, according to the Jewish burial custom. Now in the place where he had been crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been buried. So they laid Jesus there because of the Jewish preparation day; for the tomb was close by." John 19:39-42
Reborn. Jesus has been crucified, hanging on the cross, condemned to death for our sins. Nicodemus had been secretly meeting with Jesus who was unjustly punished and killed because He stood in the way of power and threatened the evil that had control of them.
We have witnessed the journey of Nicodemus, a closet disciple of Jesus. Meeting with Him in the dark of night for fear of being seen. Fear of being called a disciple of Jesus, one of His followers. As Nicodemus looks upon the cross he hears the words Jesus spoke to him. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life." John 3:16
Is this how the Son of God is to be treated? NO. Nicodemus and Joesph of Armathea move out of the safety of the darkness and proclaim who is King. They give Jesus a proper burial, one fit for a King. Nicodemus is living his faith in full view and willing accepts his fate, knowing this is the life he is suppose to live. He is reborn, his actions speak to that.
Are you a closet disciple? Is Jesus still hanging on the cross for fear of being found out? God clearly tells us to live in the light, be the light that lives within. Time is passing by, our decisions not only impact us but they impact others.
What is Gid saying to me?
Dear Father, it is a new day with new insights. Each day we live with You we are reborn to the joy of life. Each day is a new day for we are new again. Under the tutelage of the Holy Spirit, it is You that transforms us. It is You that gives us the words of everlasting life. Thank You Father for this day, for living in the light of Christ. Prayers for a friend being healed from cancer, help us trust in You as we walk with You. I ask this in the name of the King of Glory, Pray for us.
Mary, Conceived without Sin, Pray for us.
St Joesph, Most Strong, Pray for us.
