Daily Thoughts - We are an Easter People.

Daily Thoughts - We are an Easter People.

"Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy. When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world. So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you."  ‭‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭20‬-‭22‬

As you listen to Christ speak these words as one of the Disciples, it does not make sense, it's real meaning goes over your head.  Your Teacher is speaking in a tongue that is hard to understand.  Have you ever felt that way when reading scripture?

Yesterday was the Feast of the Assumption of Jesus, the day the Church commemorates Christ's ascension into Heaven.  Jesus speaks with the knowledge that His Holy Spirit would descend upon the disciples and give them His gifts.  Understanding is one of those gifts.

Their joy is complete when they can once again see Jesus in their days.  This happened on Pentecost Sunday.

In God's infinite wisdom, He has given us the Church so together with scripture and the feasts of celebration we may gain insight into what Jesus is saying.  Prayer is pondering all that is going on in your life, recognizing the gifts that He has given for His glory.  The Church is one of them, Feast days have purpose.

Does your Church celebrate feast days or is that a tradition that isn't honored?

Dear Father, I listen to the silence through out the day and see You at work.  I thank You for the grace of this day and the opportunity to grow.  Help us understand that life happens and how we respond is our gift back to you.  Thank you for this day, it did not all go as I would have liked but it was fun and rewarding.  Prayers for a family handling a difficult situation, may they realize the gift of grace within the trials.  Give us a restful sleep this night and prepare us for another day to honor You, Amen.

Mary, Queen of Heaven, Pray for us.
St Joesph, Protector of the Holy Family, Pray for us.
St Ignatius, Pray for us.
St Patrick, Pray for us.

Pray for the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit as we await Pentecost Sunday.  Here are the prayers for today:

Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.  1 John 4:4b
