"But he said to them in reply, "Who are my mother and [my] brothers?" And looking around at those seated in the circle he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. [For] whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother."" Mark 3:33-35
I struggled this morning trying to make sense of Jesus's comment about His family. After Church it was much clearer what message He was trying to convey. We are all part of God's family if we are doing His will. Jesus doesn't distinguish between immediate family or race, skin color, religious faith, Saint or sinner. God is inclusive, seeking all to come to Him. How does Jesus respond to anyone that came to Him, He treated them all the same, even those that were trying to condemn Him. What about you, are you following His example or are you creating an exclusive community? God is God of all, if they will receive Him.
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the teaching this morning, we always learn when we are in Your presence and are paying attention. Give me a heart that is inclusive and does not classify others into groups. May I see what You see, Your gift of life. May I not see color or religion, rich or poor, may my actions be that of love. Help me see my brother and sister in all that I meet. Bless this day Lord and open the eyes of my heart. Amen.
Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
