"In the course of time Cain brought an offering to the LORD from the fruit of the ground, while Abel, for his part, brought the fatty portion of the firstlings of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry and dejected. Then the LORD said to Cain: Why are you angry? Why are you dejected? If you act rightly, you will be accepted; but if not, sin lies in wait at the door: its urge is for you, yet you can rule over it." Genesis 4:3-7
Do we give our best to God? God knows the difference when we are giving our first fruits. In right relationship with God we are always in step with Him. His favor are graces given to help us become better and we recognize them with our best. In selfish relationship we keep what is best for us, we have a tendency to misinterpret God's favor believing He is punishing us when in fact He is trying to help. We give sin control, through this pain of sin God wants us to see true happiness. Only in giving God our best will we experience true happiness.
Dear Father God, sin has control over so many people, even in my own life I must guard against it. Help me overcome my selfish tendencies and give You my best. The joy that You offer far outweighs the fleeting pleasures of sin. Help me in my daily relationship with You, show me the areas of my life that I need to improve upon. May You increase and I decrease when I am getting out of step. Bless those Father that are experiencing pain in their lives, may they see the joy that You offer and know their reward is in Heaven.
Mary, Full of Grace, pray for us.
