"Enlighten them in regard to the statutes and instructions, showing them how they are to conduct themselves and what they are to do. But you should also look among all the people for able and God-fearing men, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain, and set them over the people as commanders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens." Exodus 18:20-21
Living a godly life. Sometimes in our zeal we do not see the outcome we are creating. Someone who has gone before us has a greater insight and can give prudent advice for they can see what you can not. Moses receives spiritual direction from his Father-In-law. And in doing so God is building up men. There is something to be said about receiving spiritual direction. It is good that we can go to someone and allow them with the grace of God to give insight. If more men and women would do this, their loads they carry would be lightened, just like Moses was.
