WEEK FOURTEEN: JESUS PREDICTS HIS PASSION DAY 5

WEEK FOURTEEN: JESUS PREDICTS HIS PASSION DAY 5

MORNING FACE TO FACE WITH GOD:
Begin with Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Prayer on Mark 10: 32-34: The Third Prediction of the Passion:  "They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went ahead of them. They were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. Taking the Twelve aside again, he began to tell them what was going to happen to him. "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and hand him over to the Gentiles who will mock him, spit upon him, scourge him, and put him to death, but after three days he will rise." [Please read Mark 10: 32-45 for a better appreciation of the passage].

Read the Reflection; then pray using Mark 10: 32-43; ask for an intimate knowledge of our Lord, who has become man for me, that I may love Him more and follow Him more closely (#104)

Jesus has been making his way toward Jerusalem, the city of destiny. He is in Samaria, in the vicinity of Jericho. When you ponder the passage for prayer, you see two distinct responses as Jerusalem and the accomplishment of Jesus' mission approaches. We are told that Jesus set his sights very resolutely upon Jerusalem and God's mission for him. His disciples, however, were both amazed and afraid: "They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went ahead of them. They were amazed, and those who followed were afraid." Then for the third time, Jesus predicts his passion, death, and resurrection. The disciples are on an altogether different page. They still cannot comprehend Jesus' message to them. In fact, James and John display the spirit of the world, in sharp contrast to Jesus' attitude of humility. They ask to be seated at either side of Jesus in the kingdom! This request triggers off a vehement reaction among the other disciples. It is only after the resurrection and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that the disciples finally embrace the spirit of Jesus and live as his disciples.

Death, not a very pleasant thing to talk about.  Jesus predicts His death and how He will die, as Son of Man He has time to ponder His death.  He also knows that death is only the beginning of new life for He speaks of His resurrection.  Something for all of us who are following Christ are hoping for.  Death is only the beginning, it is the door way into the next life, a life we get to chose here, do we listen to the teachings of Jesus or do we listen to the ways of the world.  In order to think like Jesus, we must follow Him, even if afraid.  Remember it is no longer I but Christ within that lives.  He has conquered death so nothing to fear other than our own weakness and with God, He will overcome this as well.  Keep going on the way.  Enjoy your Sunday, honor God by worshiping Him as we are commanded to, be in His presence.

What is God saying to you?  My ways you do not fully understand but with time it will all make sense.  Be at peace in all circumstances even in the storm, I will be there.

Dear Father God, You have always been good to me.  I see the storms of the past and how together we faced them without fear and moved through them.  Today there is new life in these areas.  Prayers for all going through the unknown, be at Peace with God at your side watching over you.  Thank You Father for tasks accomplished, for the simple things we take for granted.  Watch over us this day and let's continue on the way.  Amen.

Mary, Queen of Peace, Pray for us.
