WEEK FOURTEEN: JESUS PREDICTS HIS PASSION DAY 6

WEEK FOURTEEN: JESUS PREDICTS HIS PASSION DAY 6

MORNING FACE TO FACE WITH GOD: Begin with Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Prayer on Matthew 21: 9: Palm Sunday "Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest" [Please read Matthew 21: 1-17 for a better appreciation of the passage].

Read the Reflection; then pray using Matthew 21:9; ask for an intimate knowledge of our Lord, who has become man for me, that I may love Him more and follow Him more closely (#104)

The most significant leg of Jesus' mission on earth has arrived. His coming to Jerusalem is in accordance with the Father's will: "From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised." (Matthew 16: 21) It is here that Jesus will make his journey to Calvary, to die on the cross as our reparation offering. Jesus is fulfilling the prophecy of the prophet Zechariah 9: 9 as well: "Exult greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem! Behold: your king is coming to you, a just savior is he, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey." His entry into Jerusalem causes an amazing reception among the crowds. Hosanna in the highest is their greeting. Its original meaning is 'O Lord, grant salvation,' but it had become an exclamation of jubilation and exaltation. They are welcoming Jesus as Messiah and king. They keep proclaiming: "Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest." (verse 9) Meanwhile the city is perplexed and shaken at such a reception. They ask, "Who is this?" And the crowds replied, "This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee."  Taken from Mold me as Your Disciple by Michael Fonseca.

How many of us fall into the trap of seeking Jesus to be our earthly King?  The people in Jerusalem were singing for in their mind their earthly savior had arrived.  He was coming to remove all their burdens and make life good for them, they were thinking just like the Disciples.  Jesus was coming to save them but not in the way they were thinking.  He came to remove the burden of sin from us, to give us a different way to think, to be at peace in the midst of trials, to show us the way.  Don't fall into the trap of thinking like man, put on Jesus daily and seek Heaven.

Dear Father, You give us the best with Your Son Jesus, You give us instructions with the Ten Commandments, You give us Tradition and we seek the path of least resistance.  Change our thinking Lord, help us see the traps that are being laid by the money changers in the Temple.  Give us a heart that seeks Truth, that has stood the test of time.  Watch over us this day, keep us safe, be in our thoughts, I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
