Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

II. THE SIGNS AND THE RITE OF CONFIRMATION

1293 In treating the rite of Confirmation, it is fitting to consider the sign of anointing and what it signifies and imprints: a spiritual seal

Anointing, in Biblical and other ancient symbolism, is rich in meaning: oil is a sign of abundance and joy;103 it cleanses (anointing before and after a bath) and limbers (the anointing of athletes and wrestlers); oil is a sign of healing, since it is soothing to bruises and wounds;104 and it makes radiant with beauty, health, and strength.

Love for God.  Our readings today show how individuals stand out from the culture and give the love they have received away in honor of God.  The first reading shows a man not willing to go against his love of God and deny Him for the sake of the generations coming behind him and his own salvation.  The Gospel reading show us how Zacchaeus stood out from the crowd seeking God, his heart was drawn to the goodness of God and his response is the gift of self back.

Today is the feast of the presentation of Mary in the temple.  Tradition tells us that Mary's parents dedicated their daughter, God's gift, to God.  Their sacrifice was giving back what God gives.  How many of us this day can sacrifice love of self for love for God.  Your actions will speak of this love, if I am not there yet it is ok.  For it is our cooperation with God through prayer that brings about the life that He desires.  Have a blessed Feast day, pray for the grace of God to come upon another child of Abraham.

Dear Father, You have instilled what is within, it is You that responds and sees the happenings of the day.  You know my silent prayer that stirs my spirit.  I thank You for the power of Prayer and the knowledge of knowing You are God and You answer prayer.  Bless this day, thank You for the gift of Your daughter Mary, may we honor You with our gift of self.  Love Your son.

Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.  1 John 4:4b
