Daily Thoughts - Into the deep.
"They had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. He enjoined them, "Watch out, guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod."" Mark 8:14-15
Who and what influences you? The disciples are following Jesus, the way, the truth and the life. Yet their world was still being influenced by outside forces. Jesus took this opportunity to teach them about the culture they were surrounded by. The culture that sought to eliminate the Son of God. It was Herod who wanted to kill the new born King, it was the Pharisees seeking to capture Jesus and remove His influence.
Jesus calmly explains to them that He is the source of life, He goes back and goes over the miracles of bread and fish. It was God that feeds them. What influences us in todays climate? Do we take time out of our day to listen to God, to steal away and be in His presence and give Him time to teach?
Jesus didn't take the disciples out of the world, He placed them in the middle of it so they could become the salt of the earth. He warns us to be on guard and watch what we are consuming for it corrupts the mind allowing the evil one a foothold in our lives.
Prayer helps us understand what God is saying to us and who's we are. Otherwise: "Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court with him. Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge, and the judge will hand you over to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison. Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny." Matthew 5:25-26
Dear Father, I see and feel how the culture affects the decisions we make, we are surrounded. Yet in the midst of it, You are there calmly directing my life. Sharing insights that come from the past and helping us understand who we are up against. He has not changed and You still command time. We are blessed to be alive in these times, awaken our senses to the reality of what is going on. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
