III. HOW IS THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM CELEBRATED?
Christian Initiation
1229 From the time of the apostles, becoming a Christian has been accomplished by a journey and initiation in several stages. This journey can be covered rapidly or slowly, but certain essential elements will always have to be present: proclamation of the Word, acceptance of the Gospel entailing conversion, profession of faith, Baptism itself, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and admission to Eucharistic communion.
Holiness. It is a journey thru life that brings us to the ultimate reward. Conversion of heart, proclamation of the Word, living out our new birth. Just as in a child that enters the world, it isn't a single event but it is the beginning of a new life. Listening to God within His Word as He plants the seeds of faith within us. This is what converts hearts. Baptism is the beginning of holiness in our lives, God gives us the tools and we must put them into action. Baptism is only the beginning.
In todays Gospel reading we hear Jesus telling us about the wise and foolish virgins. They all received the gift of light, the joy of knowing God. They were instructed on what must be done to secure their lamps and keep them burning. Yet the foolish ones did not prepare, they lived care free without listening to the Word of God. The ways of the world got the better of them. The wise virgins lived in the same place but they stayed on the ready. Always prepared for the eventual day, to stand before the Bridegroom. Prayer with Jesus is the oil, the Word of God is what converts the sinner, drawing closer to holiness. Always be ready.
Dear Father God, it has been a busy week, time does not stand still and You are always there. I thank You for the gift of life, for living in a world surrounded by You. Prayers for the foolish ones to busy to put oil in their lamp and are consumed by the nothingness of this world. Help us see the power of Your living Word drawing us closer to You. Bless this day and for Your plans to be brought to light. Love Your son.
Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, Pray for us.

Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. 1 John 4:4b
