1232 The second Vatican Council restored for the Latin Church "the catechumenate for adults, comprising several distinct steps."34 The rites for these stages are to be found in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).35 The Council also gives permission that: "In mission countries, in addition to what is furnished by the Christian tradition, those elements of initiation rites may be admitted which are already in use among some peoples insofar as they can be adapted to the Christian ritual."36
Authority. Do we recognize the power of God through the Church that He established upon earth to be the keeper of holy tradition. It is through the power of the Holy Spirit that God enables His Church to establish guidelines. As adults we have free will to recognize His authority and the gifts that He gives or to ignore Him. To whom much is given much is expected.

Jesus commands a demon to "Be quiet and come out of him." The demon recognizes the Holy One of God and pays Him homage. It sees the authority of God walking on earth and heeds Jesus. Interestingly enough there are those in the synagogue that day that do not heed Jesus nor know who He is. He challenges their human authority and they do not care to give it up. We each have free will to chose who we listen to, God gives us that but be careful with the choices one makes, it has eternal consequences.
Dear Father, it is another glorious day knowing You are in control of all. Help us see the good that is intended in all situations. May we accept our own roles and be submissive to You, may we practice humility and realize that You are at work. Prayers for a friend overcoming the challenge of alcoholism, may they rest knowing that God has the ultimate authority in their lives if they chose. Bless this day and keep us safe. Love Your son.
