Genesis Chapter 34 8-14-2019 www.dailythoughts.com

"When Shechem, son of Hamor the Hivite, the leader of the region, saw her, he seized her and lay with her by force.

On the third day, while they were still in pain, two of Jacob's sons, Simeon and Levi, brothers of Dinah, each took his sword, advanced against the unsuspecting city and massacred all the males."  Genesis‬ ‭34:2, 25‬

Passions.  Chapter 34 does not mention God, it speaks about passions and how we let our passions control our actions.  Jacobs daughter is raped by Shechem.  Any father would easily want to deal with this as did Jacob.  But Jacob didn't jump to what his human passions wanted to do, he refrained from acting right away.   We should not react when our emotions have the better of us.   Jacobs sons allowed their passions to get the better of them, they did not consult their father, they just acted.  Once again, we can understand their anger but what will the outcome of these passions be?  A life without God allows our passions to get the better of us.  Quiet time in prayer each day gives us control of our passions, we realize we need God and He gives us graces in our prayer life, our challenge is giving Him the time.  Put your passions under control and sit in prayer every day.

What is God saying to me: Listen to my voice and be at peace through out the day.  Your passions do not have control over you except one, we are working on that one.

Dear Lord God, our decisions and reactions have consequences to them that we fail to see but will realize in the future.  Give us the grace to sit still and listen, give us the grace to pray each day at least 15 minutes with the guidance of Your Holy Spirit.  Thank You Father for helping us slow down during times of duress, to consult You with the path forward and to make decisions together when we are at peace in Your presence.  Prayers for those under the control of their human weaknesses, may their prayer life flourish and their passions be under control.  I ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.  Amen.

Mary, Seat of Wisdom, pray for us.
