"Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!" Mark 10:23
How does Jesus define wealth? In my opinion those things or possessions that one is unwilling to give up for God. He is the Good Teacher and His Holy Spirit strives to sanctify each of us but we must be willing to respond and give of ourselves. There is another thought in my head this Sunday as I watched people going about their day not really giving God any thought. Our time is a possession, are we willing to give that to God? "He said to Peter, "So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?" Matthew 26:40b. The parable of the wealthy man has many meanings along with wealth. "Therefore I prayed, and prudence was given me; I pleaded and the spirit of Wisdom came to me. I preferred her to scepter and throne, And deemed riches nothing in comparison with her," Wisdom 7:7-8. The spirit of Wisdom is given to those who seek her out and she is greater than any prize this world can give. Be like Jesus and serve your Father in Heaven, little eyes are watching what do you consider wealth more than God. Give of your time and keep watch with Him at least one hour each week.
Dear Holy Spirit, I treasure our company together and the desires You place within my heart. I thank You for the time we spend together and the pearls of great price You are giving each of us. Increase my love for You and instill Your wisdom within to be given at Your command. May I be convicted with Your gentle love for I am being sanctified by Your Holy Spirit. Overshadow us this day to be a pleasing offering in Your site and may we each recognize the possessions of wealth You are asking us to give up for You. In Jesus name, Amen.
Mary, Our Lady of Good Success, pray for us.
