"The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron:
Then somebody who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer and deposit them in a clean place outside the camp. There they are to be kept to prepare purification water for the Israelite community. This is a purification offering." Numbers 19:1, 9
Simple gestures with deeper meaning. When I was I child we were taught as we went into Church we were to bless ourselves with the holy water, the same as when we would leave. The Israelites prepared the holy water to purify themselves when they became unclean. Holy water is used to purify ourselves when we come into the presence of God, it is what God asks us to do. It may seam like a simple gesture but we are being purified when we bless ourselves, we are being cleansed from all that the world tries to put on us. In Chapter 19, there is also a section that talks about those who are not blessed with holy water. Everything has meaning, they are not simple gestures with no effect, ponder this the next time you enter church and bless yourself with the holy water. God said and it was so.
What is God saying to me: My Son is the red heifer, it is His offering of life that saves you. It is His blood that once sprinkled upon you sanctifies you. Live My gospels.
Dear Lord, a new day dawns, a day to worship You and come into Your presence in the holy of holies. I thank You for giving us Your word for having it written down so we can read it and contemplate its meaning. I thank You for the simple gestures that sometimes are done without thinking but have such a rich tradition. You are the Great Healer who is leading us into eternity, help us realize our time here is short, really short compared to forever. Watch over us and purify us as we follow Your words. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
Mary, Full of Grace, pray for us.
