Week 2 - The Journey Day 6
"Jesus answered them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin." John 8:34
This is an interesting exchange between Jesus and the Jews trying to trap Him. All have sinned, yet being a slave there is a way out of this enslavement, and He is standing in front of them. "A slave does not remain in a household forever, but a son always remains." John 8:35. The Son of God is the answer and He tells them the keys to eternal life. "Jesus then said to those Jews who believed in him, "If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."" John 8:31-32
Jesus does not force His will upon the Jews, He try's to get them to see the error of their ways. As the leaders, they are trying to kill Him, God is love, this father they are following is the god of lies, they are sons of perdition.
All have sinned, I will sin today, hopefully not intentionally. With Jesus as our example, we can live better lives, we can follow His example and turn to God the Father. Sin will enslave you and you can become dead to the truth even as He stands in front of you. It is His example that will set you free, the rightful heir to the throne making us adoptive sons and daughters.
What is God saying to me?
Dear Father, it is another busy day with lots of things that are in need of attention. Thank You for exercising my thinking this morning in Your word. Thank You for the example Your Son gives as He is being condemned neither bitter or self serving just speaking the Truth. Help us recognize how our own will, will either free us from sin or trap is to sin. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
