"When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward." Matthew 6:2
What is at the heart of this verse? Whom are you serving, self or God? Jesus spent His whole life serving His Father in Heaven, not once was it self serving, this a lesson He is passing on to His disciples. Yet, like us, they are seeking places of honor, to be recognized for their efforts. God knows the heart, He knows what our why is. Why else would He help to correct His disciples, He knows it is a journey into the heart of God.
Jesus and God the Father have the same heart. When you look upon another do you see what Jesus sees? Do you give as Jesus gives? Alms is giving of ones self not for recognition but for the glory of God, it can be anything, your time, your talent or your treasure. Jesus sits with us this morning and explores the heart and we sit and ponder what is our motivation. Have a blessed day and begin each at the feet of Jesus, there is nothing better than being loved by Him.
What is God saying to me? I see your heart and I know what motivates you, I will keep it a secret. Continue the journey into My heart.
Dear Father, thank You for a beautiful productive weekend surrounded by love and many fond memories. You give from the heart Lord and I in return try to reciprocate. Watch over us this week, may we sit with You and be blessed as the disciples were blessed. Prayers for a week where the other is the focus of our efforts. I ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.
