Week 4 - The Journey Day 4
"Jesus answered, "Will you lay down your life for me? Amen, amen, I say to you, the cock will not crow before you deny me three times."" John 13:38
God knows us better than we know ourselves and He still loves us. Jesus going to His crucifixion knew Peter would deny Him. Peter relying upon his own strength thought he would lay down his life for Christ. He as well knew that Jesus was on his way to death but, Jesus was ready to lay His life down. "After he took the morsel, Satan entered him. So Jesus said to him, "What you are going to do, do quickly."" John 13:27
Preservation of life is built within us, we seek ways to avoid danger especially if there is no cause, this fight wasn't Peters yet. Peter had been on the fringes where Jesus was in the game. "Jesus answered, "Will you lay down your life for me?" I can only imagine from this point forward for Peter, every time a cock crowed Peter was reminded of his weakness and the need to rely upon God to give him strength. It isn't our own strength that helps us fight the battle, it is Christ within and recognizing where the real power comes from. Peter figured this out and did lay down his life with the power of the Holy Ghost. We are offered that same reality.
What is God saying to me? Love these little ones, they are watching and learning by your example. Live the faith that I have given within you. Greater is I that is in you that he that is in the world.
Dear Father, the rooster crowing this morning was a nice touch, something not normally there. Your timing of events are always perfect and nothing happens without Your knowing. Help us recognize the areas of our lives that where we are relying upon our own strength and deny You the opportunity to change our world. You will remind us how You play an active part in our lives. Prayers for those that are over critical of themselves And thinking that everything is within their own control, including me. I ask this in the name above every other name, Jesus Christ, Amen.
