Week 6 - The Journey Day 6

Week 6 - The Journey Day 6

"And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because he is a disciple—amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.""  ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10:42‬

Our actions speak of our intent, words only begin to tell the story but our actions is our character.   A cup of cold water was not something that was readily available in Jesus's day, I assume it required effort to get it and keep it cold, it required giving of ones self for another.  In this verse it also shows the respect or admiration from one to another, offering help to sustain the body so it can continue.

Discipleship isn't an easy task, it requires effort, it requires thoughtfulness, it takes time and it needs to be watered.  Jesus spent three years developing disciples that eventually understood their mission.  The disciples didn't drink from a fire hose, they received a small cup of cold water that quenched their thirst.  We too need to keep this in mind as we become the disciples that God calls us too.  If you are still reading this, you are a disciple, remember everyone is in a different place.

"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.""  Matthew‬ ‭28:19-20‬

What is God saying to me? Every encounter is an opportunity to reach the soul, all I ask is that you sprinkle a little water, I will see to it that it serves its purpose.  I am the one that gives life to the body and the soul.

Dear Father, I see the thirsty and the lost rejecting a cup of water but that does not deter me from our mission.  I know You will penetrate their hardness of heart and bring about life.  Thank You for the gift of life, for the gift of another who offered the water of eternal life.  You are rebuilding the garden of Eden one person at a time.  Thank You for this day and all it has to offer, keep us safe and well watered with the well of everlasting life.  In Jesus name, Amen.
