Week 36 - The Journey

Week 36 - The Journey

"But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall name him John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of [the] Lord. He will drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the holy Spirit even from his mother's womb, and he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of fathers toward children and the disobedient to the understanding of the righteous, to prepare a people fit for the Lord.""  ‭‭Luke‬ ‭1:13-17‬

Preparation.  Zechariah had plenty of time to ponder these words, it was the last ones he heard before he could not speak.  The joy he must of felt knowing their prayers were heard and are answered in the affirmative.   Not only would they have a son but he would be great in the sight of the Lord.

John the Baptist was the forerunner to Christ, the one to get the people ready for Jesus.  It was the Holy Spirit working thru a willing heart that had been prepared for his mission in life.  God directed his steps and he followed with an openness to God.

Each of us has a mission, has a purpose, our prayers are heard as well.  Not to satisfy our own needs but to bring about the will of God.  Zechariah pondered these words for nine months and examined his own way along with his priestly calling.  Was his prayer self serving or God serving.  In the quiet of your heart God speaks and responds.

What is God saying to me?

Dear Father, my prayers are being heard and I am been giving time to ponder.  In the stillness of the day we sit together, me trying to figure it out and You gazing upon me with joy, for we are together.   Watch over this day and turn our hearts towards You and Your will, Your perfect will that brings about joy and peace.  Prayers for those wandering in the wilderness, unaware of its trappings.  Thank You for the gift of this day.  I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
