Week 37 - The Journey

Week 37 - The Journey

"The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. He is the one of whom I said, 'A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.' I did not know him, but the reason why I came baptizing with water was that he might be made known to Israel." John testified further, saying, "I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from the sky and remain upon him. I did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain, he is the one who will baptize with the holy Spirit.' Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God." The First Disciples."  ‭‭John‬ ‭1:29-34‬

Eucharistic celebration.  "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.  Happy are those who are called to the supper of the lamb."  Words we hear at every Eucharistic celebration.  God in the flesh manifested in the supper of the lamb.

I did not know him is an interesting statement from John the Baptist.  They are second cousins, Mary and Elizabeth are first cousins so John must of known Jesus, the son of Mary.  But as a child when they would get together John knew Jesus but not as the Son of God.  He knew Jesus as man but not as the Son of Man.

On this day he encounters the Risen Lord, the one who entered the womb when Mary entered his mother's house.  That same spirit that entered John that day revealed who Jesus really was.  The stories of Jesus wrapped in swaddling cloth came alive in that moment when Jesus, his cousin, walked towards him.  Here was the One whom his heart had desired, the supper of the lamb.

Which John are we during the Eucharistic celebration, the one who see his cousin or the one who sees the Lamb of God?

What is God saying to me?  A life worthy of giving away is a life worthy of My sacrifice.  There are many spending themselves in faithful service to My word.  There are many where My word has yet to be revealed to them.  Like John, they see with their eyes and not with their heart until that fateful day.

Dear God the Father, I gaze into Your eyes, I see and feel Your presence.  I see Your life being poured out through others faithfully serving You.  I thank You for the gift of faith, the joy of hope and the beauty of everlasting life.  You are the keeper of our souls and I entrust myself to You.  Bring about the change You desire in us Lord, may we see the Lamb of God walking towards us each and every day we walk this side of Heaven.  Prayers for a friend in the hospital with pneumonia, heal their body and bring them home.  Thank You Father for the blessings of a faithful women living out her calling.  In Jesus name, Amen.
