Daily Thoughts 7-26-17 Exodus 16:13-15

"In the evening, quail came up and covered the camp. In the morning there was a layer of dew all about the camp, and when the layer of dew evaporated, fine flakes were on the surface of the wilderness, fine flakes like hoarfrost on the ground. "On seeing it, the Israelites asked one another, "What is this?" for they did not know what it was. But Moses told them, "It is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat." Exodus‬ ‭16:13-15

The stories in the Old Testament foretell of what is to come in the New Testament. These events happened, so I have a question for you. Was Jesus only speaking symbolically when "Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you." John‬ ‭6:53‬. If it is just symbolic then the Old Testament story would be a greater event than the New Testament. God gives us bread from heaven to feed us for the journey. As Jesus said "For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink." John‬ ‭6:55‬. His words are not symbolic nor is the Eucharist.

Dear Lord God, You give us Your flesh to eat and Your blood to drink so we may have life. Like the Israelites, the journey isn't easy but the food You give us nourishes our soul and is faith. You prepare us for what lays ahead. Send Your Holy Spirit to guide us, increase our faith in You and bless this day with insight and understanding. May I always be at the ready to give reason for my hope. In Jesus name, Amen.

Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary, pray for us.
