"Now these are the cities you will give to the Levites: the six cities of asylum which you must establish for the homicide to run to, and in addition forty-two other cities—" Numbers 35:6
Numbers 35 - Run to the Lord. God establishes a place of sanctuary when a death occurs at the hands of another. A place where one can go until it could be judged properly. The Levite's served God in the temple and in a sense served God in rehabilitating those that showed up in town. God is a safe haven, He knows the whole story and provides a place of protection in the midst of chaos. Without these cities of asylum, there is no where to go. God is the safe haven, a harbor to go to for protection in the midst of a storm. Justice will be dealt with but at least there is a place one can go to for peace. We too need this place, a sanctuary, run to the Lord.
What is God saying to me: Stay the course and listen, I give words every day to you. Surrender.
Dear Father, I enjoy our sanctuary each morning, a place where we can just be. A place where You and I commune, I can just be. I thank You for the places of rest that You provide and for moments throughout the day that You give. Father, You see the spiritual battle that is going on, You see what we can not but maybe only perceive, help us recognize the importance of having a sanctuary where we can go to be protected from the avenger of blood. Prayers for those lost in the fog, prayers for our priest, sisters and brothers who offer themselves in lives of dedicated love. Bless this day Father with your Holy Spirit, Amen.
Mary, Our Lady of Success, pray for us.
