Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

1278 The essential rite of Baptism consists in immersing the candidate in water or pouring water on his head, while pronouncing the invocation of the Most Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Suffering.  All creation groans, do we not all feel the effects of sin that is in the world?  Look at the challenges it will produce in the day ahead and how we are to live above it with the hope of Christ within that all is well.   As a fallen human, I want to live in heaven here, I don't want the suffering that we must endure.  But that is part of the effects of sin from the one who brought it into the world.

Yet there is the gift of hope, of knowing the Everlasting God and living with Him, in Him and through Him.  This is what gives us hope, gives us endurance, gives us life that brings about purpose and not futility.  Even in the suffering there is purpose that brings about the glory of God.

"Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope, and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us."‭‭Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭3‬-‭5‬

Dear Father, the groaning stretches us to seek You out in the situation, to ask for help that goes beyond our human nature and trust in Your divine will.  Thank You Father for allowing us to be purified and tested in fire which produces hope, hope in the everlasting life with You.  Prayers for the soul that needed to hear this today.  May we all see Your glory be brought about thru the sufferings of the day.  Bless this day and what it will produce, Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God known.

Daily Thoughts - Make God known.

1277 Baptism is birth into the new life in Christ. In accordance with the Lord's will, it is necessary for salvation, as is the Church herself, which we enter by Baptism.

Glorify.  In todays Gospel reading we hear of the woman who was hunched over for eighteen years until Jesus laid hands on her and she stood up and glorified God.  Her heart was in the right place, Jesus laid hands on her but she came to the synagogue to worship God and her response tells of her focus.  It wasn't Jesus, a man she worshipped but God.

"For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens."  Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭12‬.  Can we be like that crippled woman in our daily lives, always looking at God?  (Now that I have entered the day, am I seeing God in all that He has placed in front of me?).  Can we come to worship when things are not perfect?  Will struggle stop us from looking to
God?   Is our focus on God or on self?

Today is a new day, look up and glorify God with what He gives today.  His joy awaits as we focus on the one who saves.  Our struggles go away when God is our focus.

Dear Father, today is a new day, we have crispness in the air and joy in our heart.  May we always look up and give You the glory.   May our sight not be fixed on things of this world but upon the You who created it.   Thank You for the blessing of sight in a difficult situation.   Watch over us this day and may Your healing hands be upon us as we seek to serve You.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

1276 "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you" (Mt 28:19-20).

United to Christ.   The Son of God goes to pray, He spends time with His Father in Heaven.  Why would Jesus need to do this?  He is not of this earthly world.  Within prayer is the grace that is poured out from Heaven that feeds the soul and spirit to do the will of God.

I have done it both ways, not praying and praying faithfully.  When I lived without prayer, life beats you up, you are never good enough.  In prayer, you are united with Christ who is united with the Triune God.  You are where you are suppose to be.

Upon Jesus's return from prayer, He lived out His earthly life in union.  The very same thing happens with us, the day becomes His will along with our will to live it out according to His word.   Have a blessed day, Armor is on.

Dear Father, there is something to be said about striving for the word.  To sit with Your word until Your voice is heard.  The distractions become part of the prayer and they are no longer distractions.  The same happens within the day and the result becomes the same, part of our offering back to You.  Make us strong within prayer so that Your will be done as we are sent forth by Your Son.  Love your son.

IN BRIEF

1275 Christian initiation is accomplished by three sacraments together: Baptism which is the beginning of new life; Confirmation which is its strengthening; and the Eucharist which nourishes the disciple with Christ's Body and Blood for his transformation in Christ.

Thanks be to God.  I walk with Saint Paul this morning as he speaks of his struggles with the sin that has control of him in small ways.  He has learned to recognize the sin within his life and how God is His help, how Jesus has conquered sin and is the one within His teachings who shows the way.  Paul is fully aware of himself.

Jesus speaks of the same thing within seeing the signs and being prepared for the coming judgement.  Are you aware of the sin within your life?  Are you building yourself up with the armor of God?  Today I enter the classroom prepared for the day, knowing I will face the battle with sin.  It is not the devil's playground if the One within is the One you listen to each day.  Otherwise you are playing into the devil's hands by not even being aware of what he is doing to you.

Dear Lord God, I am thankful to sit each day and listen to Your precepts.  To learn from the life of Your Saints and Jesus as they walked this earth.  You are Holy God, that is to be honored and not mocked.  May we recognize the gift of this day and the peace that comes when we walk through it with You.  Prayers for Peace this day, may we all obey and respect the value of life, a life with You and not against You.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

1274 The Holy Spirit has marked us with the seal of the Lord ("Dominicus character") "for the day of redemption."86 "Baptism indeed is the seal of eternal life."87 The faithful Christian who has "kept the seal" until the end, remaining faithful to the demands of his Baptism, will be able to depart this life "marked with the sign of faith,"88 with his baptismal faith, in expectation of the blessed vision of God - the consummation of faith - and in the hope of resurrection.

https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/102623.cfm

Conflict.  As I listen to Jesus speak this morning, He challenges us to be a contradiction to the ways of the world.   Do we stand against the wages of sin or do we stand with sin.  Are we united with the heart of God believing in His teaching, being in union with Him or do we deny the Truth by living out a lie.  Look around you, look within, are you in conflict with God.

""I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!"  ‭‭Luke‬ ‭12‬:‭49‬. Fire is all consuming, once it has been lit by the Holy Spirit it will accomplish His intended goal, our salvation.

Dear Father, it has been a blessed day, I am thankful for the teaching this morning.  You are leading us into a deeper relationship and allowing the day to become the classroom.  May I always be attentive to Your Holy Spirit and have the desire and fortitude to respond with love in all situations.  Thank You for empowering Your child to take charge when it was necessary.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

1273 Incorporated into the Church by Baptism, the faithful have received the sacramental character that consecrates them for Christian religious worship.84The baptismal seal enables and commits Christians to serve God by a vital participation in the holy liturgy of the Church and to exercise their baptismal priesthood by the witness of holy lives and practical charity.85

Give what you have been given.  I sit and listen to our Triune God as He speaks thru scripture and everyday life.  He speaks of responsibility, obedience, accountability and consequences.  When listening to Jesus speak what do you hear?  Is it just the rules or consequences that you hear or is it the love He has for our souls?

I hear the love and see the fruit of being obedient, accountable and hopefully responsible.  I get to deal with the consequences of sin and respond in a way that doesn't disobey the teachings of the Church, which is Christ.  I get to feel the angst coming, remind myself of the fruits of our relationship and respond with, hopefully, love in action.

There are consequences to our choices but even more important there is the fruit of grace when we are in tune with the One we love through prayer.  Be His difference in the world you will encounter today.

Dear Father, Peter was listening when You spoke through Jesus.  You give the message through scripture that speaks to our world today and we, like Peter, must receive it in the way it was given, with love.  Prayers for a world too busy to slow down and listen.  Prayers for a culture that only seeks to be self serving not seeing the consequences of a house unprepared as You speak into the chaos.  Bless this day and may each of us give what You are giving.  Love Your son.

An indelible spiritual mark . . .

1272 Incorporated into Christ by Baptism, the person baptized is configured to Christ. Baptism seals the Christian with the indelible spiritual mark (character) of his belonging to Christ. No sin can erase this mark, even if sin prevents Baptism from bearing the fruits of salvation.83 Given once for all, Baptism cannot be repeated.

 https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/102423.cfm

Pray.  Gird your loins speaks to me this morning and to be vigilante.   We are living in very tumultuous times and the only thing that brings us consolation is prayer.  Sitting with God and visiting like one would visit with a dear friend.  This is prayer, this is girding one's loins, for it is Christ that prepares us for the day.

When one is attentive to one's spirit, then one is being vigilante.  You are not being lead around with passing whims but by the spirit of God.  Look into the world, the storm is brewing and it can bring about fear: "For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control."  ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭7‬.  This is what happens within prayer if we become consistent and intentional.

How do we expect to hear God if we don't speak to Him?  Pray with purpose and ask.

Dear Father God, it is good we are here, the coffee is good and the conversation is great.  There is not a care that You are not working on.  I am thankful for the insights that are given along with a sense of peace.  You also speak of action in doing what needs to be done.  Prayers for a child in need of prayer this morning and their parents to be at ease, may their habit of prayer continue after the storm passes.  Bless this day Lord and use me as You see fit.  Love Your son.

The sacramental bond of the unity of Christians

1271 Baptism constitutes the foundation of communion among all Christians, including those who are not yet in full communion with the Catholic Church: "For men who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in some, though imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church. Justified by faith in Baptism, [they] are incorporated into Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers by the children of the Catholic Church."81 "Baptism therefore constitutes the sacramental bond of unity existing among all who through it are reborn."82

Faith.  What matters most to God?  When He comes back, what does He hope to find.  "I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?" Luke‬ ‭18‬:‭8‬.  That is a question each of us must answer ourselves, are we storing up faith?  Some days I wonder as I watch a world seek possessions and things that will not last.  Is God part of our days?

In todays Gospel reading Jesus speaks of the rich who lay claim to their wealth.  Is it their wealth that will save them?  Interestingly, Abraham was a wealthy man in the eyes of the world.  He laid claim to the promises of God and he honored Him by living out his faith.  Faith is built with actions, trusting in God in all things.  Even in the lawlessness that we see do we trust that God will work it out?  Jesus doesn't suffer in pain for nothing neither do we, lay hold of the promises of God.

Dear Father, some days I wonder but then You appear and speak into the darkness that brings about salvation.  I thank You Father for the promises from of old.  I thank You Father for another day to lay hold of more faith as we seek out our salvation.  I trust in You and will act upon what is placed along my path.  Bless this day and increase our faith.  Love Your son.

1270 "Reborn as sons of God, [the baptized] must profess before men the faith they have received from God through the Church" and participate in the apostolic and missionary activity of the People of God.80

Faithful.  Listen within the story of Abraham, he lived out his faith in front of family and friends.  Even when he failed, he did not lose faith.  I ponder the faithfulness of God today, He is always faithful.  What He says will come to pass, even if we don't fully believe.

In our covenant relationship with God, God is always faithful.  He is fully vested with us as He brings about the blessings He poured upon Abraham.  Even when things seem impossible, as it was for Abraham and Sarah, He tells us to not lose faith.  Things may not seem like they are coming together but that is thinking like man.  With God all things are possible.  Live out your faith and proclaim the glory of God.

Dear Father, it is a blessed day as we journey together.  I see the generations You are bringing about within Your family.  Help us see the importance of trusting in You in all things.  Help us see what happens when we take things into our own hands without You.  Continue to bless the family, and help fathers see the importance of their spiritual role within the home.  You are at work Lord.  Love Your son.

1269 Having become a member of the Church, the person baptized belongs no longer to himself, but to him who died and rose for us.76 From now on, he is called to be subject to others, to serve them in the communion of the Church, and to "obey and submit" to the Church's leaders,77  holding them in respect and affection.78 Just as Baptism is the source of responsibilities and duties, the baptized person also enjoys rights within the Church: to receive the sacraments, to be nourished with the Word of God and to be sustained by the other spiritual helps of the Church.79

 https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/102023.cfm

The Gift.  I sit with David from the Old Testament, he has received the gift of new life and speaks of it freely.   "Of David. A maskil. Blessed is the one whose fault is removed, whose sin is forgiven. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord imputes no guilt, in whose spirit is no deceit."  ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭32‬:‭1‬-‭2‬.  He no longer works for the food that perishes but is driven to speak of the One who saves.

Each of us are given the opportunity to receive the gift of new life.  Within the stillness of the morning, the Master speaks of His love that He has for you with no expectation other than love.  Our spirit rejoices in knowing God, it is filled with the peace of Christ.  The world may rail around us but within the Gift resides and You know who you belong too.  If He knows and cares for the sparrows how much much do you think He looks out for you.

Within the stillness of the morning, He will sing of His love for you.  If you will sit still and follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit and ask for His guidance.  Enjoy your day God has prepared for you, there is nothing that He can not handle.

Dear Father, I sit with You this morning and watch as You took a man who had failed in life and redeemed him through daily face to face with You.  David carried the guilt of murder and adultery, You showered Your love upon Him and he in turn gives back what was freely given.  Thank You for the fruit that does not perish, may we give it away freely with no expectation other than loving you in return.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

1268 The baptized have become "living stones" to be "built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood."74 By Baptism they share in the priesthood of Christ, in his prophetic and royal mission. They are "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, that [they] may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called [them] out of darkness into his marvelous light."75 Baptism gives a share in the common priesthood of all believers.

Woe to you.  I stand at a distance and watch as Love communicates a message to one who is justified in his own truth.  Jesus is not condemning, He is speaking the truth with Love, willingly accepting the outcome of the conversation.  Knowing that its end will lead to His pain for our sins.

It is easy to stand justified in our own truth and point the finger at the other.  Jesus on the other hand, speaks truth but does not point the finger, He loves His accusers that much that He dies for them.  Woe to you.  In what ways am I standing before another pointing the finger knowing I am right and they are wrong, ready to condemn them.

Can I speak truth with love and allow God to determine the outcome even if the outcome is painful.

Dear Lord God, You speak, I listen.  I pray that I listen beyond our time together in silence.  I pray I can face opposition with love, not seeking to condemn but to respond with love and trusting that You will bring about what is necessary for the salvation of the other.  Thank You Father for working in our lives long before we knew where You will lead us.  You prepare the way for us to walk down.  Bless this day and continue to pour out Your grace upon those who are attentive to Your voice in their lives.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Incorporated into the Church, the Body of Christ

1267 Baptism makes us members of the Body of Christ: "Therefore . . . we are members one of another."72 Baptism incorporates us into the Church. From the baptismal fonts is born the one People of God of the New Covenant, which transcends all the natural or human limits of nations, cultures, races, and sexes: "For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body."73

Community.  I sit this morning with a sense of awe and amazement as God works within the lives of the saints.  We were sent into this world to work the ground.   "The Lord God therefore banished him from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he had been taken."  ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬.  He does not send us alone into the world to do this work.  He provides all that we need if it is God who we place our trust in.

Jesus sent them out before He was to come to them.  He sent them out with one heart, one mind, one spirit, to bring about the Kingdom of God within our world.  Not one that we can physically touch but one that we see as we witness God at work.  Whom do you toil for?  Are you enamored with the world and its fruits that do not lasts or is it God that has your heart.

How does one know whom they toil for?  Look at your community, are you surrounded by the presence of the Holy Spirit within the other.  Does your heart burn for what God desires for you and for them?  Your community tells a story, what is it writing?  St Paul's community all worked for one goal in todays first reading.   St Luke had the same purpose as his brothers, to bring about the Kingdom of God.  The Kingdom of God is at hand for you, do not work in vain but be united with Christ in your work.

Dear Father, I thank You for the friends that I am surrounded by.  I look forward to seeing what You are doing and what You are bringing about.  It does not happen overnight but it is being written one day at a time.  Bless our efforts that only brings about the fruit of Your spirit.  Prayers for the last piece of the puzzle, You are fully aware of who that is.  I trust in You and am thankful for another day to be at peace within You.  Love Your son.

Daily Thoughts - Make God Known.

Daily Thoughts - Make God known.

1266 The Most Holy Trinity gives the baptized sanctifying grace, the grace of justification
- enabling them to believe in God, to hope in him, and to love him through the theological virtues;
- giving them the power to live and act under the prompting of the Holy Spirit through the gifts of the Holy Spirit;
- allowing them to grow in goodness through the moral virtues.
Thus the whole organism of the Christian's supernatural life has its roots in Baptism.

Heart Knowledge.  Slow down and take in the gift of God.  Each day should begin with prayer, within the silence of the morning is an experience that can not be explained but must be lived.  It is here that we encounter Jesus in our lives.  We live out the joys and sufferings of our days. We share the peace together as He offers sanctifying grace.

God gives us the desires of our heart.  Is it the Creator that you seek or the creation?  Jesus is able to see our hearts and He knows how to reach them.  If we slow down and listen to Him, life is filled with wonder and amazement.  He is God, slow down and take in the gift of God.  It is heart changing.

Dear Father, I sit within the beauty of Your creation and am amazed at how You bring about change within our world.  I am beyond thankful this morning for answered prayers, this is of Your will.  Guide our steps today as we seek out what Your plans are for us.  Help us slow down and listen to the beat of Your heart.  Bless this day and all it has to offer.  Love Your son.

"A new creature"

1265 Baptism not only purifies from all sins, but also makes the neophyte "a new creature," an adopted son of God, who has become a "partaker of the divine nature,"69 member of Christ and co-heir with him,70 and a temple of the Holy Spirit.

The Whisper.  What are you looking for?  It seems to be the question Jesus is asking in todays Gospel reading.  Have you pondered the stirrings of your heart, what is it the makes you do the things that you do?

Within daily prayer is hidden the Divine mystery, the answer to the stirrings of our heart.  A people come looking for a sign and there in their midst, hidden in plane sight is He that they seek.  There is a joy that is easily found when one is attentive to the whisper that stirs the heart.

It was planted there at your baptism into the Kingdom and it is found within prayer.  Have a blessed day, God is in control.

Dear Father, there is joy in listening to you in the morning and through out the day.  You are working with me as we travel together, my trust is growing.  Prayers for our world Father, may we recognize Your whisper in our lives that all is well when You are by our sides.  Prayers for a friend given the gift of presence and knowing what love truly is.  Thank You Father for another day to walk with You, this side of Heaven.  Love Your son.
