1264 Yet certain temporal consequences of sin remain in the baptized, such as suffering, illness, death, and such frailties inherent in life as weaknesses of character, and so on, as well as an inclination to sin that Tradition calls concupiscence, or metaphorically, "the tinder for sin" (fomes peccati); since concupiscence "is left for us to wrestle with, it cannot harm those who do not consent but manfully resist it by the grace of Jesus Christ."67 Indeed, "an athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules."68

Blessed. "He replied, "Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it." Luke 11:28. The first reading from today speaks of the consequences of not following God. It is easy to focus on the consequences but do we see the blessings? Sometimes things happen in our world that causes us to reflect upon God.

Blessed, when you develop the skill to hear and observe, no matter what comes your way, you remain in consolation even while suffering. How can one say that? They have experienced it and in their suffering they turn to the One who knows them. Daily prayer leads to being blessed in all situations and even when we fall, we know we are loved. Come alive in your situation and hear the Word of God, He calls you Blessed.
Dear Father, I hear You calling into the wilderness as we travel along the path of destruction. I see the outcome of poor choices and they do lead to being called blessed. Thank You Father for answered prayers in times of need, You are building the Kingdom upon the earth. Bless our day, give us ears to hear in our times of need. Prayers for peace in all circumstances. Love Your son.
