II. HUMBLE VIGILANCE OF HEART
2729 The habitual difficulty in prayer is distraction. It can affect words and their meaning in vocal prayer; it can concern, more profoundly, him to whom we are praying, in vocal prayer (liturgical or personal), meditation, and contemplative prayer. To set about hunting down distractions would be to fall into their trap, when all that is necessary is to turn back to our heart: for a distraction reveals to us what we are attached to, and this humble awareness before the Lord should awaken our preferential love for him and lead us resolutely to offer him our heart to be purified. Therein lies the battle, the choice of which master to serve.16
"The Lord hears the cry of the poor", todays responsorial Psalm. God sees and knows all, even when we are unaware of it. One of things that I find interesting in prayer is the constant reminder that God is never far away when we turn to Him. Even in our distractions He is there to give water to a thirsty soul. Accept where you are at and trust that God has it under control. In our eagerness to advance there are things that must be dealt with. The distractions highlight areas that are still in need of purification so they are no longer distractions just part of the journey. Enjoy your day especially if you have already made a sacrificial offering to our Father in Heaven. He heard You and always responds with a messenger.
