"Thus says God, the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and its produce, Who gives breath to its people and spirit to those who walk on it: I, the Lord, have called you for justice, I have grasped you by the hand; I formed you, and set you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, To open the eyes of the blind, to bring out prisoners from confinement, and from the dungeon, those who live in darkness." Isaiah 42:5-7
"Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. Then Judas the Iscariot, one [of] his disciples, and the one who would betray him, said, "Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days' wages and given to the poor?"" John 12:3-5
Blindness. How can it be that a man spends all of his time with Jesus and still be blind? Self-interest, what can God do for me? Even though Judas does not see Jesus as the Son of God, he likes the benefits of being there. It feeds his own self interests. He is blinded by his own passions and does not see the love God has for him even in his deceitful ways.
Am I open to what God is doing or would I rather tell God how my life should be. As we enter into Holy Week, look within its stories and see yourself. Ask for the grace to be able to see the world through the eyes of another. Our own self interests will condemn and deny the divinity of Christ within God's child.
Jesus came so we may have life and have it abundantly. "To open the eyes of the blind, to bring out prisoners from confinement, and from the dungeon, those who live in darkness."
Dear Father, I ask for sight to see the plight of another and not to be blind to my own passions. I pray for the compassion of Christ to live within and may I be willing to sacrifice for another. Prayers for the blind, going about our days not seeing the reality of life around. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
