Daily Thoughts - Tuesday of Holy Week.

"One of his disciples, the one whom Jesus loved, was reclining at Jesus' side. So Simon Peter nodded to him to find out whom he meant. He leaned back against Jesus' chest and said to him, "Master, who is it?" Jesus answered, "It is the one to whom I hand the morsel after I have dipped it." So he dipped the morsel and [took it and] handed it to Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot. After he took the morsel, Satan entered him. So Jesus said to him, "What you are going to do, do quickly."" John 13:23-27
Selfishness. I watch at the supper of the Lord and witness the betrayal of Christ. I see a man so full of self interest that he has no fear of God. He is so consumed with his own interests and not what God has in store for him, which is equally good and equally bad depending upon his choices in life.
I witness the two thieves on the cross with Jesus, one concerned about an innocent man and recognizes his own guilt and seeks God, the other thieve only has concern for self and how he feeds his own need. "Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, "Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us." The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply, "Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation?" Luke 23:39-40
Life can become over whelming and if we are not careful we lose who's we are and like Judas we belong to Satan. "Have you no fear of God?" Spend a little time reflecting upon holy fear this holy Tuesday. Which thief would you be? God can transform our lives if we seek Him within our lives otherwise we die in vain.
Dear Father, I witness the betrayal of You at the supper table of life, may I be Peter. Even though I will hurt You, may I always look into Your holy gaze and know that I am loved. Prepare us for the Supper of the Lamb as we dine in paradise, that is our hope and our holy fear. Prayers for those off at a distance not realizing the plight of life choices, give us a holy fear that we may worship and honor You in all that we do. In Jesus name, Amen.
