Daily Thoughts - Into the deep

Daily Thoughts - Into the deep

"At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is something greater than Jonah here."  ‭‭Luke‬ ‭11‬:‭32‬

"Listen", what was Jesus referring to in this story of Jonah?  Jonah listened to God in his life and acted upon what was asked of him.  He went and did.  "Jonah began his journey through the city, and when he had gone only a single day's walk announcing, "Forty days more and Nineveh shall be overthrown," the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast and all of them, great and small, put on sackcloth."‭‭Jonah‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬-‭5‬

Jesus is telling us to change our ways, to listen to God in our lives.  The Ninevites believed what God was saying and fasted, sought God's forgiveness and repented of their evil ways.  Acting upon God's word is what we are each called to do.  Each year in lent we are given the opportunity to listen to God and repent.  God forgives, will we listen and act.  ""Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock."‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭24‬

He is the something greater Jesus was referring to.  Jonah got it and God wasn't physically present, the crowd didn't get it and God was present.  Do we recognize God when He is always present to us?  It is lent, a time of renewal and self reflection, what is God saying to You?

Dear Father God, You have tilled the ground and prepared this heart to hear and act upon Your word.  I give You this day and all it has to offer, may I be a pleasing offering in Your site.  May we listen in the moments of silence and then act upon Your voice in our lives.  I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.

Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.  1 John 4:4b
